The John H. Thomas Youth Group Home - Helping our young people achieve their goalsOur Mission

It is the mission of the John H. Thomas Youth Group Home to provide care for residents in an environment conductive to the development of responsible, self reliant behavior. Our goal is to instill in our young people the skills necessary to become positive members of the community.

About the Agency

The John H. Thomas Youth Group Home is operated by Chesterfield County. It began operation in October 1992, and serves males and females from ages 12 to 17.

The Group Home provides a non-secure residential program for local teenagers who are referred by the court system or Court Service Unit. An individualized service plan to identify goals is designed for each young person. A case coordinator is assigned to guide each youth in the attainment of their objectives.

The John H. Thomas Youth Group Home program does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender or national or ethnic origin. The Youth Group Home adheres to Virginia Standards for Interdepartmental Regulation of Children's Residential Facilities.

Our Objectives

  • Prevent long-term out-of-home/community residential placement
  • Prepare teens to function successfully in a supportive community environment
  • Assist young people in identification of personal goals
  • Teach and reinforce positive social behaviors
  • Guide the family in identification of goals
  • Assist the family in learning skills
  • Teach independent living skills to young people that enable them to become self-sufficient upon completion of the program
  • Teach teens to identify and access services within the community for avenues of support after returning home
