Juvenile Detention HomeDetention Home SchoolProviding education opportunities for detained youths.Mission: The Chesterfield Detention Home School staff will provide continuing education to students so they can successfully reintegrate into their regular schools upon leaving this facility. The Education ProgramChesterfield Detention Home School is a partnership between the Virginia Department of Education and Chesterfield County Public Schools providing appropriate educational services to detained youth. The Chesterfield Detention Home School staff follows the Chesterfield County Public School curriculum. The staff works with students, elementary through high school, encouraging them to maintain or improve their academic standing and successfully reintegrate into their home schools. Students’ home schools are encouraged to participate by providing assignments that keep students on par with their home school peers. Whether assignments come from home schools or originate in the Chesterfield Detention Home School the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) guides instruction. The Chesterfield Detention Home School is housed inside the secure confines of the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home. The school is a modern facility consisting of nine fully networked classroom areas and a large commons area. Students have Internet access via the Chesterfield County Public Schools network. A partnership with the Chesterfield County Public Library Outreach Program provides students with reading and research material. The field-trip-in-reverse program brings in various speakers and programs to enrich the cultural perspectives of students. Services are provided for students with special-education needs involving behavior, learning styles, language, gifted and honors programs, general education diplomas and postgraduate programs.
