Juvenile Detention Home

Medical Services

Upon admission, all youths are assessed for pertinent health issues, medication and food allergies. All youths are also given an explanation of medical services and how to receive them in this facility.

Any youth that is required to stay five or more days will receive a physical examination by one of our nursing professionals. This exam includes a health history, vital sign and systems assessment. A Hepatitis A vaccine (Hepatitis B is given in the public schools), is offered free of charge, but a parent signature is required.

If your child is on prescription medication, it may be brought to the main entrance door at any time that is convenient to you; however, the medication must be in its original bottle with the pharmacy label intact. The medication should not be more than three months old unless it is prescribed as an “as needed” medication.

If a child already has a medical appointment scheduled with their primary care doctor, specialist, psychiatrist or is under treatment for physical therapy, it is up to the parent to notify the nursing clinic to arrange for transportation. Parents or guardians are responsible for the payment of outside medical appointments and services, as well as prescription medications and refills. Parents are requested to provide Chesterfield Detention Home with a copy of their child’s health insurance card. The insurance card will be kept on file in the youth’s medical folder should an emergency arise.
