Form
Tree or large shrub with open, spreading crown; frequently wider
than tall.
Leaves
Opposite, compound palmate, finger like in appearance. 5-7 radiating
leaflets, each narrow elliptic, 2"-4" long 1/2" -
1" wide tapering at the base, dark gray green above, grayish
beneath.
Fall Color
No significant color in Fall.
Stem/Buds/Bark
Bark on old plants is grayish and develops a blocky characteristic.
Flowers
Lilac or pale violet, fragrant. Flowers occur in 3" - 6'
long spikes from the ends and leaf axils of the current season's
growth resulting in 12" to 18" long and slightly less
in spread panicles.
Flowering Time
Flowers occur from June - September
Fruit
Small drupe of no consequence
Landscape Uses
Chastetree can be used as an accent plant in a shrub border
or highlighting a landscape.

Showy purple flowers blooming through summer and into fall.
