Welcome to Lawns Online!

This course is designed to give the most current recommendations on establishing and maintaining a lawn in Chesterfield County and the surrounding areas.

The course is divided chronologically into 5 lessons, starting in August. The lessons provide information on proper establishment, fertilization, watering, and weed management at the times of year they should be done.  Key points will follow each lesson to highlight the important facts covered by that lesson.

Proper turf management practices help to protect our watershed, in which we all live. Even if you don't live next to a stream or lake, runoff from your property eventually makes its way to a body of water through storm drains, groundwater, or ephemeral streams.  Applications of fertilizer and pesticides CAN AND DO runoff and leach into surface and ground waters if not managed properly.  The advice in these lessons is designed around approved best management practices (BMPs) to protect our water resources.

Links are provided within each lesson to allow you to ask specific questions of our Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent.  A simple "click" of the mouse will give you an e-mail connection to ask any questions for clarification of information in the lesson or for other questions related to management of a lawn.
