Chesterfield Disability Services Board
About the Chesterfield Disability Services Board (CDSB)Our mission is to learn the needs of area residents who have physical and/or sensory disabilities, raise public awareness and to influence long-range state planning and investment. The CDSB informs state and local agencies and governments of issues concerning persons with physical and sensory disabilities and propose grants to subsidize services to make them affordable. Although the CDSB cannot provide direct services, it serves as a catalyst for the development of new initiatives, expansion or improvement of current services and the development of public or private funding sources. The CDSB provides a link to services that may provide the opportunity to achieve goals and gain greater inclusion in the day-to-day activities of life. The CDSB is an organization of individuals appointed to represent our citizens who have physical or sensory disabilities. Members meet monthly to review the status of existing projects, analyze and create new initiatives, and provide an open forum to discuss topics related to the needs and services in Chesterfield County. The board consists of citizens from each Magisterial District (Bermuda, Clover Hill, Matoaca, and Midlothian). At least 30% of the CDSB members have a physical and/or sensory disability or have a family member with such disabilities. If any County citizen is interested in serving on the Board, please call 804-748-1307. The CDSB was established in 1992 due to the Beyer Commission and the American Disabilities Act.
