Training Courses

A key to effectively manage disaster situations in a neighborhood is the prompt on-scene response by teams of citizens who are trained to certain basic levels of assistance. Certified Emergency Response Team (CERT) training provides those basic skills and promotes an effective partnership between the career emergency response personnel and the people they serve.
Chesterfield County’s CERT program will offer 3 complete training courses for citizens on seven 3-hour evening classes, and 4 continuing education courses in 2008.
Professional emergency services personnel will provide training in such areas as disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, light search and rescue operations, disaster medical skills and disaster psychology. Female and male participants should be at least 18 years of age. There is no maximum age limit, although course participants should be in reasonably
good health.
Citizens who complete CERT will be integrated into the emergency response capability for their respective neighborhood in Chesterfield County. CERT volunteers will maintain and refine their skills by participating in exercises and supplemental training, and will be involved in developing projects to improve community preparedness. Certificates will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
CERT courses will be held at Eanes-Pittman Public Safety Training Center, 6610 Public Safety Way, Chesterfield, VA 23832. Each course is limited to 18 persons, first come, first served. Please call the (804) 318-8700 to reserve your place.
Chesterfield County’s CERT Program is sponsored by the Chesterfield Emergency Planning Committee, Citizen Corps Council. For more information, contact Lynda F. Price, Chesterfield Emergency Management Coordinator, at (804) 748-1236.
