Individuals

Personal Property Tax
This tax is assessed on the value of motor vehicles, trailers and boats that are stored, garaged, or parked in Chesterfield County. This page includes information regarding Car Tax Relief, Assessments, Vehicle Updates, Filing Information, FAQ and Forms.

Income
The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue (“Commissioner”) is responsible for receiving and processing all Virginia state income tax returns and initial estimated tax payments for Chesterfield County residents. In addition to receiving the forms and payments, our office offers assistance in preparing state tax forms. A more limited amount of federal forms and assistance is available.

Tax Relief for Elderly/Disabled
The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue (“Commissioner”) is responsible for administering a program for tax relief on real estate (and mobile homes) for eligible elderly and disabled residents of Chesterfield County.

Consumer Utilities
A tax is imposed on consumers of telephone, electric, and gas utility services. Taxes are collected and remitted by the last day of the month following the month of collection (electric and gas service) or billing (telephone service).

Consumption
A tax is imposed on consumers of electricity and natural gas based on consumption. Of this tax a portion is designated as local consumption tax. These taxes are collected and remitted by the last day of each month following the month of collection.
