Jefferson Davis Corridor Project
A comprehensive plan for the revitalization of the Jefferson Davis Corridor has been adopted by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors. See the plan.
Many programs and projects have been implemented within the Jefferson Davis Corridor since the plan was adopted. Among the most significant are the following:
- Jefferson Davis Association, a non-profit organization of business and residential leaders was established in 1992 for the purpose of “promoting and improving the quality of life and the vitality of the business environment in the Jefferson Davis Corridor”.
- Enterprise Zone was established to offer state and local incentives for business relocations to the corridor. Significant new business development has occurred. During the last six years, over $63,000,000 has been invested in corridor business construction.
- Zoning ordinance amendments were adopted to allow property owners greater business utilization of property and lessen the cost of county mandated landscaping and aesthetic requirements.
- Pro-active code enforcement established within residential and business areas.
- Systematic property code inspections are undertaken in the trailer and mobile home parks within the corridor.
- A business incubator, Bizworks, has been created.
- An aging low-income housing project, Park Lee, was redeveloped into a mixed – use, mixed - income community called Winchester Greens.
- A community center was constructed in Bensley Park.
- Property for the interpretation of the historic Falling Creek Ironworks site has been purchased.
