Department of Environmental Engineering

LID Grant Opportunity

The Chesterfield County Department of Environmental Engineering, Water Quality Section & The Friends of Chesterfield’s Riverfront are sponsoring an Low Impact Design (LID) grant to encourage engineers and developers to seek innovative design solutions for the reduction of pollutants, volume and velocities of stormwater to adjacent streams and rivers within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. A total of $140,000 is available for the application of LID for development plans. Funds will be awarded to multiple applicants. Individual award amounts may vary. Completed LID projects will be included in a cost comparison study and showcased as demonstration projects for the Chesapeake Bay Region.

This project received funding from the Virginia Water Quality Improvement Fund provided by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) via grant number WQIA-2006-07

 

Chesterfield County and the Friends of Chesterfield's Riverfront are proud to announce that 2 grants have been awarded for the program. The first grant has been awarded to the Stonehenge Village Shopping Center. Project Partners include Bobby Marchetti of Stonehenge Properties LLC and Rummel, Klepper & Kahl.  The project will be located on Midlothian Turnpike near the Stonehenge Country Club. The proposed LID features include:

  1. Biorention areas in parking lot islands
  2. Shallow marsh retention basin
  3. Open channel grass swale

The second grant project has been awarded to The Beth Williams Field of Dreams at Evergreen Elementary School.  Project partners include The Beth Williams Foundation and Barthol Design Associates. The project is located at the Evergreen Elementary School athletic complex off Lucks Lane near Rt 288.  Proposed LID features include:

  1. Grassed swales
  2. Cistern for football field irrigation which will collect water from impervious surfaces such as the school roof the new concession stand roof and parking lots
