2004 Bond Referendum

Parks and Recreation - $19.7 million

Numerous parks and recreation projects are planned, including the development of three new parks and athletic sites, major maintenance projects at parks and school sites countywide, and expansions at 12 existing sites. About $30.1 million is planned for parks and recreation projects, of which $19.7 million is bond funds and $10.4 million is contributions from other funding sources. The projects planned include:

  • Dutch Gap boat launch and nature center
  • Appomattox River Canoe Launch expansion
  • New parks — Falling Creek Park-North, Chester Kiwanis Community Park and Route 360 west area park
  • Existing park and school improvements — Fernbrook Neighborhood Park, Goyne Park/Ecoff Elementary School, Irvin G. Horner Park, Lake Chesdin Park, Matoaca Park, Mid-Lothian Coal Mines Park, Robious Landing Park and others.
  • Sports/athletic facilities improvements — Lowe’s Soccer Complex, Manchester and Midlothian middle schools, Midlothian High School, New Clover Hill Middle School and Spring Run Athletic Complex
  • Major maintenance projects at various parks and schools
