Arthur S. Warren, Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors

The Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce and its chairman, Tinh duc Phan, were presented a resolution by Supervisor Art Warren at the Sept. 26 board meeting to recognize the organization’s strong contribution to Virginia’s economy.

Helene Leong, a fourth-grade teacher at A.M. Davis Elementary School, was named Teacher of the Year in Virginia in the 12th annual Wal-Mart and Sam's Club State Teacher of the Year program. In her honor, the school received a $10,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation. Congratulations to Leong on her success.

Improvements to the playgrounds at Rockwood Park will be completed this winter, tennis court renovations this fall. Construction of the new Orange Trail will be completed
next spring.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program named Alexandra Almore of Clover Hill High School as one of the 1,600 semifinalists in the 44th annual competition. The program is an academic competition to provide recognition for outstand-
ing Black American students. Almore has the opportunity to fulfill additional requirements and advance to the finalist level, where she would compete for one of 800 scholarships.

Art Warren addressed the Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce meeting on economic development opportunities in Chesterfield County at the Bon Air United Methodist Church on Sept. 14. and spoke at the official opening of New Direction Evangelistic Church at its new location on Hull Street Road on Oct. 13.

Art Warren presented a resolution to Providence United Methodist Church on the occasion of their 200-year anniversary on Oct. 14. and participated in the ground
breaking ceremony for the Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital held on Oct. 18 at CJW Medical Center in Chesterfield County

Betty Hunter-Clapp of Brandermill will be recognized at the Chesterfield Senior Hall of Fame ceremony on Oct. 25 for her involvement as a volunteer in county health care and environmental policy.
