At the Sept. 26 board meeting, the supervisors approved a mixed-use development with residential and commercial uses on Branders Bridge Road. The development is anticipated to have approximately 5,000 homes, up to 470,000 square feet of commercial space, and an elementary and high school. The developers have pledged to build at least $72 million in road improvements. A project to enlarge the football and soccer fields at the Goyne-Ecoff Park and Athletic Complex has been approved. Additional parking, a concession trailer pad and public utilities also will be included. The first phase of a county-funded project to add a shoulder to Happy Hill Road between South Chester Road and Longmeadow Boulevard is expected to begin next summer. Construction on a pedestrian bridge across the lagoon channel at Dutch Gap should begin this fall. When finished, it will complete the 4.5-mile trail loop. A project to construct a sidewalk on Route 1 between Bensley Commons Boulevard and Tower Road is expected to begin next summer. Improvements are proposed for Chalkley Road between Route 10 and Centralia Road including the widening of shoulders on Chalkley Road from Beckinham Drive south toward Route 10 and improvements to the curve between Deep Forest and Red Leaf roads. The project is expected to begin construction next summer. Chester Middle School has received approval for an expanded soccer field and additional fencing and lighting.
