Midlothian District Community Connections News

Daniel A. Gecker, Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors

At the Watkins Centre site, the retail center, called Westchester Commons, developed by the Zaremba Group, has almost completed the approval process. A groundbreaking is planned in late June for the retail center and The Shoppes at Westchester. Its developer, the Rebkee Company, also anticipates starting on the first office building, a 6,000-square-foot structure, this month. Village Bank is a part of the project and will be building its corporate headquarters at the Watkins Corporate Centre.

At the April 11 board meeting, Peter Marmerstein, CEO of CJW Medical Center, announced that a 60,000-square-foot, $30 million facility, the Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital, will be constructed on the Johnston-Willis campus.

Three new businesses recently opened in Midlothian: Care-Med, a new home health- care business; a new Kroger super store; and Redi-Clinic—a walk in medical clinic in the Wal-Mart store.

On April 11, the 130th anniversary of the Bon Air Community was recognized at the board meeting. The chartering of the Bon Air Land and Improvement Company occurred in June 1877. In the 19th century, Bon Air (meaning “Good Air”) was a popular summer resort because of its higher elevation and accessibility from Richmond by railroad.
