Animal Services - How Do I Report A Problem

The Animal Services Unit of the Chesterfield County Police Department handles a variety of issues as they relate to domesticated animals in the county. There are several methods by which you are able to contact the unit:

  • If you need to speak with an Animal Services officer about:
    • dogs running at large
    • animal neglect or cruelty
    • if you have found a stray cat or dog
    • or any other non-emergency animal services issue

please call the police non-emergency number at (804) 748-1251.

The Emergency Communications Center answers this number 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • If you wish to speak with a shelter representative, please call (804) 748-1683 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • General e-mail inquiries can be directed to animalcontrolinquiries@chesterfield.gov. Please note this e-mail address is not monitored on a 24 hour / seven day basis and is not a venue for making reports of abuse, neglect, dogs running at large or barking dogs. Such incidents should be directed to the non-emergency number so an Animal Services officer can respond and assess the situation.
